Flat tires are very rare on the playa since there's very little to puncture them. (Except maybe unprotected rebar). However, if you pick up a used bike, then there's a good chance that one of the tires will have a puncture or slow leak that needs to be fixed. Also, if you do happen to get a flat tire, you can be left without a bike until its fixed.

Buy a Patch Kit

A simple patch kit will cost only a couple of dollars.

Make Your Own Patch Kit

Here's all you need:

  • A bottle of rubber cement. (It's pretty much the same stuff that comes in those tiny tubes in a patch kit.)
  • An old piece of tube. You can pre-cut this into patches, or just cut off bits of the right size, as necessary.
  • Some alcohol wipes to clean the tube before applying rubber cement and a patch.
