Showers
From Burnwiki, a Burning Man Wiki & Brain Dump
Many people have many different philosophies about keeping clean on the playa. There are many options:Contents |
Sun Showers
Sun Showers are a common option, but require some work and infrastructure. Be sure to set up your sun shower to drain into an evaporation pond instead of onto the playa. It's easy to build a small shower platform on the corner of your evaporation pond.
Water Trucks
The water trucks that spray water to keep dust down make a good quick, cold shower. Just be careful not to drink the water since it's not potable. As of 2005, there was talk of some of the trucks using a water & sugar solution, which was supposed to be more effective at keeping the dust down, so these (if they exist) should be avoided.
Public Showers
A few camps offer public or group showers, but you usually need to bring your own water. Sometimes (as in the photo below) the shower is also an art installation. It's also possible to find some near-substitutes such as a slip-n-slide.
Alternatives to Showers
- Rinse-Free Body Wash & Shampoo is often used for bed-ridden patients. It's alcohol-based (much like hand sanitizer) so it can be used to clean & scrub, and then dried off with a towel, without leaving a residue.
- Cetaphil is a cleanser that can be used to clean and moisturize.
- Some burners argue that showering isn't necessary. The air is very dry, so sweat evaporates almost immediately, eliminating the major source of BO. There are also those who don't care
Misc
- If you have long hair, bring leave-in conditioner.
