Working with Fake Fur
- Cut from the back (furry side down) with a sharp blade such as a box cutter - scissors will cut the nap.
- To stitch it, Use a teflon or walking foot (if possible) on your sewing machine.
- Fabric glue is great for attaching fake fur to things. Look for "ok to wash" for the best hold.
- A simple way to make a piece of fur clothing is to take something old and unwanted (pants, for example) and glue fake fur on top, or add trim.
- NEVER put fake fur in the dryer! You can wash it in a washing machine, but only with COLD water! Shake it out before and after washing, and allow to air dry. You can gently brush with a hairbrush, but it's best to have one that is dedicated only to faux fur so you don't get hair oils, conditioner, etc on it.
- We are often asked if it is possible to dye or color faux fur. Sadly, the answer is no.
