For many burners, breakfast needs to be quick and simple. You went to bed at 6am, the sun baked you out of your tent at 10am, and you're starving since the last thing you at was dinner 14 hours ago. Some great simple breakfasts are:

No Preparation

  • Energy Bars. These can be dry, but there are a few brands such as Clif that dose some of their bars with caffeine.
  • Soup. This may seem an odd suggestion, but It's really easy to open a can, jar, or box of soup and drink it straight away. Soups also tend to contain a lot of salt which will help you restore your electrolytes, and spicy soups can help with a hangover.
  • Toaster pastries. You can toast them if you really want to, but they're great in their natural state.
  • A number of camps serve breakfast and/or coffee to anyone.

Some Preparation

If you think you can easily dig up a clean enough bowl and spoon, these are some simple breakfast items:

  • Cereal. This takes a little more preparation, but is still quick and easy. Both ultra-pasteurized and soy milk will survive the desert heat in unopened containers.
  • Instant oatmeal/grits/etc
  • Bloody Marys make a good alcoholic breakfast drink. Like soup, they're salty and help restore your electrolytes.
